Legacy emerged in response to the murder of George Floyd, with a commitment to reshaping the narrative of Black men in our community. From day one, our purpose has been clear: to lead with accountability, responsibility, and service. Our first project was restoring the historic Lake Como Cemetery after years of neglect, a symbol of honoring both our past and our future. Since then, we have raised funds for local institutions like Eugene Crosier Memorial Daycare and Miss Endy’s Christian Day School, and we continue to host the annual Como Cover Up—a blanket, coat, and sock drive that brings warmth to unhoused individuals and families in need. Each July 3rd, we also present Comofest, a festival that celebrates the history, culture, and resilience of Lake Como by bringing together neighbors, entrepreneurs, and partners in joy and unity. Today, Legacy remains dedicated to building a stronger, more connected Lake Como through action, service, and unity.
Our members are sons of Lake Como—born here, raised here, and rooted in its legacy. We come from different walks of life, with diverse skills, talents, and perspectives, yet we are united by one mission: to honor our history and build a stronger future for our community. By standing together as men committed to service and accountability, we hope to inspire, motivate, and unite our fellow Comoans under a shared vision. One Love. One Community. One Legacy.
Our mission is to break the cycles that hold our youth back. Legacy is committed to eradicating the disproportionately high rates of poverty, illiteracy, incarceration, and premature death that impact youth of color. We pursue this through intentional mentorship (LIT—Leaders in Training), educational opportunities, and community-driven initiatives that build character, strengthen families, and empower future leaders. By investing in our young people today, we are shaping a stronger, healthier, and more united Lake Como for generations to come.
